Festival time in Christchurch New Zealand.

New Zealand Cup and Show Week is just a month away (8th – 16th November) and, as well as all the favourite action, several exciting new events have been added to this year’s nine-day festival.

I'll be at the street party in the ReStart mall ... will I see you there?

The info I was sent says ....

Christchurch City Council Events Development Manager, Richard Attwood says New Zealand Cup and Show Week promises to deliver the racing, fashion, entertainment and country atmosphere that makes Canterbury Anniversary the best week of the year in Christchurch.

“This is a wonderful time for locals, new residents and out-of-town visitors to celebrate how creative and exciting Christchurch has become. We have a full week of events guaranteed to get everyone out and about,” Mr Attwood says.

“The big race days at Addington Raceway and Riccarton Park Racecourse give us the chance to enjoy on track action, and our award-winning Canterbury A&P Show is guaranteed fun for the whole family. A highlight this year is the 150th running of the prestigious New Zealand Cup at Riccarton Park.”

Christchurch is getting dressed up for the month too.  “With so many new hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions now open in the city, we are rolling out the welcome mat for visitors from around the country. Look out for special New Zealand Cup and Show Week window dressing, billboards, flags and colourful bunting all over town,” he says.

Sothys New Zealand 2000 Guineas Day at Riccarton Park racecourse marks the official start of the New Zealand Cup and Show Week racing action on Saturday, 9 November.

On Tuesday 12 November Addington Raceway hosts the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup Day.

The Canterbury A&P Show, from 13 to 15 November, is where country comes to town in a spectacular mix of colour, excitement and competition with lots of family fun.

It all finishes with the highlight of the week, the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup, and celebrations for the 150th running at Riccarton Park. Kylie Bax Poros, Kiwi super-model and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Ambassador will be a special guest.
